Reminder to submit Feedback on Two P&P Items

View the proposed new item 21003: Pregnancy and Pregnancy-Related Conditions and provide feedback on the procedures by visiting the P&P webpage (scroll to the bottom) by October 24, 2026.

The proposed P&P reflects the College's commitment to providing an accessible, inclusive, and supportive environment for students, employees, and applicants who are pregnant or experiencing pregnancy-related conditions. It establishes a consistent framework for addressing pregnancy-related needs in academic and workplace settings and supports compliance with federal and state requirements, including Maryland House Bill 6. The procedures outline the processes for requesting, reviewing, and implementing accommodations; identify roles and responsibilities; and address pregnancy-related absences and leave, health and safety considerations, lactation and breastfeeding, confidentiality, and protections against discrimination.

These modifications clarify several provisions identified through implementation of the recently modified procedure. The edits do not represent substantive changes to the process or its intent. Rather, they clarify existing expectations regarding preference of appointment for shortened-term chairs, participation in interviews and forums, the Dean's responsibility for recommending a candidate, application of the process to General Studies, and the timing of notice from chairs who do not intend to return. As is sometimes the case when a revised P&P is put into practice, implementation can identify language that would benefit from greater precision or clarity. These edits are intended to support consistent implementation of the procedure as originally intended.
