Montgomery College Men's Basketball Looks to Build on Strong Finish in 2026-2027
The Montgomery College Raptors men's basketball team enters the 2026-2027 season looking to build on a successful finish to last year's campaign under Head Coach Quieonn Blackman. Now in his second season at the helm, Blackman and the Raptors aim to take the next step after an 18-13 overall record in 2025-2026 and a narrow three-point loss to Prince George's Community College in the NJCAA Region 20 Division II semifinals.
Despite the ups and downs of last season, Montgomery College demonstrated its ability to compete against quality opponents and make a postseason push. The Raptors return a core of experienced sophomores while welcoming a large freshman class, giving the team a new combination of size, athleticism and versatility heading into the upcoming campaign.
The frontcourt features several returning sophomores, including 6-foot-10 forward/center Gad Muhire, 6-foot-9 forward Jordan Emecheta and 6-foot-9 forward/center Ralph Kadji. Their size and experience will be valuable as Montgomery College looks to compete on the boards and establish a strong presence inside. Returning sophomore forward Zamir Brown and forward Joshua Switzer also provide additional experience as the Raptors work to build a balanced lineup.
The incoming freshman class adds depth across the roster, featuring guards Clement Ntumba, Israel Garcia, Brendan Famulare and Khi Thomas, alongside versatile wings and forwards Jesse Tshipamba, Gabriel Chaplet, Nikola Glisic, Taj'drick Randolph Jr. and Alexander Greenfield. With a mix of returning players and newcomers, the Raptors will look to develop chemistry early and establish consistency on both ends of the floor.
Montgomery College opens its regular season on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, hosting Camp Community College at 5 p.m. at the Rockville Campus Main Gym. The Raptors will then welcome opponents for their annual Tip-Off Classic November 7-8, facing Tidewater Community College on November 7 at 7 p.m. before taking on Mercer University's junior college opponent, Mercer County Community College, on November 8 at 5 p.m.
The Raptors will also host their annual Holiday Classic December 19-20, with Westchester Community College visiting on December 19 at 7 p.m., followed by Bryant & Stratton College on December 20 at 5 p.m.
With a full season ahead, Montgomery College will look to use its returning experience and incoming talent to build momentum, strengthen its identity and compete for a Region 20 Division II championship. Under Blackman's leadership, the Raptors aim to turn last season's narrow postseason defeat into motivation for another run at the regional title.
