Dear Colleagues,
The entire Montgomery College community is invited to review the proposed 2012-13 Academic Calendar at http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/edu/departmentCAS.aspx?id=8427.
You will be asked to provide your MyMC password to view the new Academic Calendar Committee pages, but all the links will be available once you are logged in.
The Academic Calendar Committee completed the 2012-13 proposal earlier than usual because the College needs to plan our increasingly more complex course schedules with more lead time. If we review now, a calendar can be approved a full year in advance of the start of the 2012-13 fall semester.
In the planned 2012-13 calendar, we return to a class start date after Labor Day, with faculty returning on August 27; classes beginning on Wednesday, September 5, and the fall semester ending on Saturday, December 22. While this end date comes close to the winter holidays, starting the semester in August 2012 impinged on the summer sessions and unnecessarily extended the entire school year. Because of the late MLK holiday in 2013, spring semester begins late in January, allowing for a winter break of comparable length to other years, as well as sufficient time for a robust winter session.
Comments, questions, and concerns can be sent through a link on the Calendar Committee web pages, or emailed to calendar.committee@montgomerycollege.edu.
With thanks for your help,
Christina Devlin
Chair, Academic Calendar Committee
