New Process: Tuition Waiver for Students with Disabilities

Category: Need to Know

Published: Friday, September 23, 2011

Effective October 1, students in letters of recognition and Workforce Development & Continuing Education are no longer eligible for the tuition waiver for students with disabilities. All other students are required to complete the process below upon registration: 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] at http://www.fafsa.gov and submit it to the Office of Student Financial Aid office by November 1, 2011. Even though this waiver is not based on financial need, the state of Maryland requires students to complete the FAFSA to be eligible for this process. 2. Print the Tuition Waiver form from http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/studentforms. This new form is required for the tuition waiver for the winter 2012 term or after. 3. Take form to the Social Security Administration office, or, if appropriate, to the Railroad Retirement Board, or the federal agency from which a student retired to have it signed and certified that the student is receiving SSI or SSDI payments and is permanently disabled. 4. Return the completed Tuition Waiver form to the Office of Admissions and Records by January 6, 2012 for the winter term, or February 10, 2012 for the spring semester. The form should include a program of study/major and curriculum code for a degree program or a certificate program to enroll in more than 6 credits per semester. A complete list of majors for degrees and certificates is available at: http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/majorsA-Z. Please note: - Previously submitted Tuition Waiver forms will not satisfy this process. - The Tuition Waiver form is only valid for one academic year. So, students will need to repeat the above process each academic year. (An academic year begins with the fall semester and runs through two summer terms.) - Students may receive this tuition waiver to cover the amount of tuition only after all grants and scholarships are subtracted from their tuition bills. For more information, visit http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/hb104. Please direct questions to the Office of Admissions and Records at 240-567-5000. If a student is ready to get started on the FAFSA and have questions, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 240-567-5100.
