Parking and Pedestrian Walkway Changes with Science East Renovation
The Office of Facilities is excited to announce that the renovation of the Science East Building will begin soon on the Rockville Campus! Construction will begin around the start of the spring 2012 semester. This renovation will take about two years and will involve removing the existing Science East windows, facade brick, greenhouse, and bridge between Science East and Science West. Extensive underground utilities will be replaced between Science East and the Computer Science Building. Some trees will be removed and replaced in this process. In preparation for this renovation a new accessible walkway and stair has been installed adjacent to the west side of CB the Counseling and Advising Building. Pedestrian walkways between Science East and Science West and Science East and Computer Science will be closed. Parking lot 11 (the lot in front of CB) will lose some spaces to accommodate the general contractor material lay down area and trailer office area, a second secure bus-campus walkway. Additionally, Facilities has a new parking lot under construction on the old tennis courts that will accommodate 176 additional vehicles. To compensate for the lost faculty and staff parking spaces, lot 4 located at the rear of the Campus Center, will have an increase of spaces designated as faculty/staff parking only.
