College Prep and Scholarship Fair, April 21 at USG
Research is showing the entire educational community (pre- k through college completion) that students need to be encouraged to pursue academic and career goals early in their educational careers. To that end, Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College and the Universities at Shady Grove will host the first College Preparation/Scholarship Fair on April 21 (1-4 p.m.) at the Universities at Shady Grove. This College Preparation/Scholarship Fair is designed to alert students to the rigors of college and to encourage their parents/guardians to establish clear financial plans to enable their children to attend college. Geared toward middle school students (grades 6 through 8) and their parents, students in 9th and 10th grade are also being invited to participate. The three partnering institutions have worked feverishly since last fall to create a full afternoon of information sessions and entertaining activities for 6th graders to 10th graders and their parents. It is significant to note that this event serves as the companion activity to the Scholarship Conference that Montgomery College has hosted in October since 2005 for students in the last two years of high school as well as those hoping to transfer from Montgomery College to four-year institutions.
