Thursday: Save on Energy Demand and Earn the College Money!
On Thursday, August 10, 2017 between the hours of 2:15 and 4 p.m., the College's Office of Facilities will be participating in the electrical grid's PJM Emergency Load Response Program (ELRP). For this short period, Facilities will attempt to reduce electrical demand below a pre-determined level on several plants and buildings in order to demonstrate capacity reduction capabilities. This program is in place in order for the grid to be able to respond to high peak electrical demand and smoothly reduce load and avoid catastrophic system brown-outs and black-outs. In exchange for this, the College will receive cash incentives based upon the amount of the reduction. The primary reduction will occur in those cooling plants that have ice storage capability which should have limited effect on occupant comfort, however, we may attempt to reduce load by elevating supply air temperatures so there may be a slight increase in room temperatures for this short period of time. We are enlisting the aid of the building occupants in this effort by reducing lighting and other electrical loads during this period. A more detailed list of those affected buildings will be released early next week. Thank you for your assistance in helping us participate in this program.
