Welcome New Chief Business and Financial Strategy Officer
Montgomery College Office of the Senior Vice President for Administrative and Fiscal Services September 27, 2017 MEMORANDUM To: The Montgomery College Community From: Dr. Janet Wormack, Senior Vice President for Administrative and Fiscal Services Subject: Welcome New Chief Business and Financial Strategy Officer I am delighted to announce that Ms. Kathryn H. Chantry will be joining Montgomery College on October 9, 2017 as the new chief business and financial strategy officer. Ms. Chantry is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of progressive work and experience in all aspects of financial management, as well as business strategy, business development, consulting, IT systems, human resources, team building, client relationship management, governance, and operations. She has been responsible for multi-million and billion-dollar budgets through all phases of the federal budget cycle, internal controls, and multi-million dollar contracts, grants, cooperative agreements and federal loans. She has directed and supervised staff and support services contractors in the management and delivery of administrative services, human capital strategies, financial/data analytics, fiscal and operational compliance, and information technology. Most recently, Ms. Chantry served as the operations director within the Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, in Washington, DC. In this role, she oversaw program performance, communications and social media, administrative operations, support services contracts, personnel hiring and workforce development, and a budget totaling $225 million. Prior to the Department of Energy, Ms. Chantry served as the chief financial officer and director of administration and strategic planning officer within the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security, in Washington, DC, where she was responsible for providing leadership and oversight to 45 staff and expert advice/consultation to senior leadership throughout the Bureau both in the Washington, DC, area and in field offices domestically and overseas. Ms. Chantry also directed strategic planning and risk management assessments to support and defend budget requests to agency leadership and Congress. She also had executive oversight of budget and finance, business administration, human resources, and information technology, and management of a $103 million budget. Ms. Chantry received her master's in public administration with distinction from American University's Key Executive Program, and her bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Colorado's Honors Program, including a minor in statistics. In addition, she served four years in the US Army, conducting biomedical research. Ms. Chantry has been a co-author of peer-reviewed research papers for her statistical contributions and recognized throughout her career with numerous awards for exceptional performance. The position of the chief business/financial strategy officer is an administrative position that was designed with the College's anticipated future business model in mind. Note that the position is not a new administrator position; it was reallocated from a vacant position. Given the College's desire to build sustainable financial plans and provide a framework for how we think about work in the Administrative and Fiscal Services Division, the role and responsibilities of this position are designed to: (1) strengthen the integration of budget, finance, and internal controls practices; (2) design new and innovative business processes as we continue to implement Workday; (3) seamlessly prepare the College for the next generation of financial modeling; and (4) implement data-driven decision-making to address our changing student needs. I want to thank the search committee for its effective and diligent work in the search for our new chief business and financial strategy officer as well as Ms. Donna Schena for serving as the interim lead for the Office of Business Services. Ms. Chantry will be located in the Central Services Building, Room E325, and can be reached at kathryn.chantry@montgomerycollege.edu. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Chantry to Montgomery College!
